Christmas in NYC!

As promised, here’s a peek at the 2019 Girls’ Trip to NYC! First, a big shout-out of thanks to my wonderful daughter and daughter-in-love who planned this event as a combined Christmas/birthday gift for me. (Do you think they know how much I love Christmas?) How lucky am I to have two such strong and talented ladies in my life. Love you! πŸ™‚

Now on with the tour. Day one, we reached NYC early afternoon. My first impression was a surprise. Narrow streets, tall buildings. Trash bags piled on the sidewalk (there are no alleys, so garbage gets deposited in front of buildings for pick-up). Skyscrapers funnel gusts of (brrr!) icy cold wind, so heavy coats, gloves, mufflers, and hats are a must. We quickly joined the throng of passersby, walking whenever possible, because traffic is a tangle. With scaffolding everywhere, buildings are under what appears to be endless renovation.

Let’s jump to the fun part. I’m telling this story in pictures rather than words, so here you go. Enjoy NYC at Christmas!

The view from our hotel window.
After a bite to eat, we headed to Times Square. A heavy police presence keeps everybody safe.
The ball that drops each New Years Eve at Times Square.
Two lovely ladies at Times Square, posing on the steps.
I always knew someday I’d be on Broadway! (at Broadway near Times Square) I didn’t sample the hot dogs.
Prep work for the tree-lighting at Rockefeller Center. Yes, it is GIGANTIC!
Would you care to make a wish at FAO Schwarz?
Your wish has been granted. Just like Tom Hanks in the movie, Big.
Hello, NBC. Sorry, I’m not granting any interviews today.
Hello, New York Times. Looking for a writer?

Nifty view on the walk to see the Rockettes.
Radio City Music Hall ahead!
Huge (and gorgeous) crystal Christmas tree at Radio City.
I was a scoffer, but the Rockettes Christmas show is worth every penny. Highly recommend!
Day 2 and after yummy NY bagels, we’re on 34th Street. This is the “old” Macy’s sign, which I love far more than the new fancy one.
Macy’s takes up an entire city block and has eight levels. The top few levels utilize old wood escalators which are so cool. Guess who we found on the top floor?
Yes, it’s the man. Santa Claus! This level is full of Christmas memorabilia, much of which is dedicated to the movie, Miracle on 34th Street.
Macy’s has window after window decorated for the season. Actually, most stores have spectacular window displays. My charming models strike a pose.

On tour in NYC. It was icy cold, but we saw a ton in a few hours time.
New York pizza in Greenwich Village? Yes, please!

After a super-chilly ride around town, warm adult beverages at Tavern on the Green in Central Park hit the spot.
A gorgeous view from Tavern on the Green. (Pretty, but much warmer inside)

What an awesome way to spend our second evening in NYC. The line to enter the show is wrapped clear around the building.
NYC theaters are small, intimate, and interactive. If you haven’t seen Hamilton, what are you waiting for? Darn the luck. I didn’t run into Lin-Manuel Miranda.

And so ends our second day in NYC. We packed in a lot of stuff over two days, and let me tell you, it was hard to distill pictures down to only a few. Hopefully this gives a hint of the fun part of our trip. I’ll post about day 3 next time…a much more somber experience.

If this post encourages you to pursue your own Christmas destination for 2020, I recommend you start planning now. Things book up super fast for popular December venues and events, so don’t wait to lock up dates, hotel, transportation, and tickets to shows/tours you’d like to experience.

Trust me. It’s worth it! πŸ™‚

    1. Hi Linda! Christmas in NYC certainly is a fabulous destination. On our plane was a group of women decked out in matching green and red t-shirts touting this as their annual ladies Christmas trip. Pretty cool.

Thank you for the birthday wishes. It’s actually on the 23rd-almost a Christmas baby! πŸ™‚
